The Bisons hit the scoreboard first in front of a hometown crowd, Saturday night, but weren’t able to keep the high-powered Rangers offence from making the difference in a penalty-filled 5-2 loss.
The loss dumps Wainwright out of the playoffs, swept by Vegreville in three straight games.
The Bisons will be heading home in tough after losing their second on the road, Friday night against the Vegreville Rangers. Wainwright trailed 2-0 after two, falling to a 4-0 final.
The Bisons will be looking for their first win of the series, Saturday night in Game Three – fighting for their playoff lives as they face elimination down two in the best-of-five opening-round series.
The Bisons battled the Vegreville Rangers into overtime, Wednesday night, but weren’t able to secure a win on the road to open their first-round playoff series.
The series picks up again Friday night, when the Bisons return to Vegreville for Game Two. Wainwright plays host the following night for the third game of the best-of-five. Both games are 8:30 p.m. starts.
The Bisons picked up a single point on the weekend, losing Friday night to the Vegreville Rangers by an 8-2 final and tying Cold Lake Saturday in an 8-8 final.
The Bisons look to match up against the Vegreville Rangers in the first round of NEAJBHL playoffs. That series kicks off Wednesday night in Vegreville.
The Bisons were on the road, Sunday afternoon, taking on the Saddle Lake Warriors. Wainwright came out on top, skating off with a 6-2 victory.
In other NEAJBHL action, the Killam Wheat Kings beat Cold Lake by a 4-1 final.
The Bisons couldn’t hold on to an early 2-0 lead, falling to a 5-2 final against the Lloyd Bandits on Tuesday. Jared Valleau and Jason McKinlay scored for Wainwright in the loss.
The team is on the road this weekend, heading to Saddle Lake on Sunday to face the Warriors.
The Bisons took on the Cold Lake Ice, Sunday afternoon, heading home disappointed by an 8-4 final.
Wainwright outshot the Ice by a 41-31 final, but couldn’t bury enough chances past goaltender Dustin Hyde. The Bisons powerplay ran at a negative, allowing three shorthanded goals in the contest.
The Bisons are on the road again Tuesday night against the Lloyd Bandits.
The Bisons recovered from an early three-goal deficit against the NEAJBHL’s top team, battling back into a tie twice before falling behind thanks to an empty-net goal in an 8-6 final, Sunday afternoon.
Cody Woodward, Jason McKinlay, and Jess Valleau led the way for the Bisons, with each recording a four point night.
Special teams were the order of the day, with seven powerplay goals scored in the contest. Wainwright had four, courtesy of Travis Boe, Jason McKinlay, Jared Valleau, and Jess Valleau.
