Bisons vs Bandits

The Wainwright Bisons picked up a huge win over the Lloydminster Bandits, Wednesday night, despite being shorthanded.

The two teams were deadlocked 1-1 after the first period, with Wainwright taking a 5-3 lead into the third period. A third-period lapse almost proved costly, as the Bandits stormed back to a 6-5 lead.

Wainwright buckled down and launched their own comeback, first tying the game and then taking the lead with five minutes left in the period, a lead they held until time expired.

The Bisons are back in action, Friday, December 30th, when they host the Saddle Lake Warriors. The following week, the Bisons hit the road to Killam to take on the Wheat Kings.

Bisons vs Thorhild

The Bisons avoided embarrassment on the road as they squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Thorhild Titans, December 17th. Thorhild, who entered the game with a 4-15 record, surprised the Bisons by taking an early lead then extending that lead in the second period.

Trailing 3-2 after two, the Bisons owned the scoresheet in the third, with Cole Kaban scoring three minutes into the final period to tie the game. Derek Pfisterer added his 30th of the season to give Wainwright its first lead of the game with 15:28 left on the clock, a 4-3 lead they would hold on to until time expired.

The Bisons are back in action on Wednesday, December 21st, when they head to Lloydminster to face the Bandits before the Christmas break.

Bisons vs Killam

The Bisons picked up a huge win over St. Paul, Saturday night, crushing the Canadiens by a 21-0 final. Derek Pfisterer had a nine-point night, scoring four times and adding five assists. Jess Valleau chipped in four goals and two assists for a six-point night, while Jason McKinlay assisted on five goals for a five-point night.

The following afternoon, the Bisons fell short against the Killam Wheat Kings in a poor showing at home. Wainwright fell behind 2-0 in the second period, but rebounded on goals from Valleau and Brandon Muise.

The Wheat Kings took control again in the third, scoring twice in the first five minutes of the third. Jason McKinlay scored late to make it close, but it wasn’t enough as Wainwright fell to a 4-3 final.
